English: Encyclopedie's frontispiece, full version. Engraving by Benoît Louis Prévost. Title page of the 'Encyclopedia or Reasoned Dictionary of Sciences, Arts and Crafts (Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers in the original title) a vast encyclopedia published in the eighteenth century, in French, by a substantial group of intellectuals under the direction of Diderot and D'Alembert. It represents an important point of arrival of a long path aimed at creating a universal compendium of knowledge, as well as the first prototype of wide diffusion and success of modern encyclopedias, to which the following ones will look and be inspired in the structure. Italiano: Frontespizio dell'Enciclopedia o Dizionario ragionato delle scienze, delle arti e dei mestieri (Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers nel titolo originale) una vasta enciclopedia pubblicata nel XVIII secolo, in lingua francese, da un consistente gruppo di intellettuali sotto la direzione di Diderot e D'Alembert. Essa rappresenta un importante punto di arrivo di un lungo percorso teso a creare un compendio universale del sapere, nonché il primo prototipo di larga diffusione e successo delle moderne enciclopedie, al quale guarderanno e si ispireranno nella struttura quelle successive. |
